I strongly believe our ancestors had a reason for having certain plants and trees grown at home. It is to make sure no one in their home starve or stay hungry even at whatever worst situations they might be financially. Having these 4 food and vegetable based traditional plants/trees. These traditional food just don’t solve their hunger but also plays a vital role on our health as they have essential medicinal benefits.

Banana: This delicious fruit is a good source of antioxidants, fiber, rich in iron and many more benefits. Every part of the tree is used in food preparation. (fruit, flower, stem, leaf). Ripe fruit is used for treating gastric problems, juice extracted from banana stem is used treat kidney stone. Poriyal made from banana flower is used to treat diabetics.


Papaya: Well known for its nutritional values and used in traditional medicine system. All the parts of the tree is useful in treating one or more diseases like diarrhea, jaundice, liver.


Green Leafy Vegetables: Green leafy vegetables are rich in vitamins, antioxidants and has anti aging benefits. Greens are used to prepare variety of subzi and used in making roti’s as well.

Let’s realize, respect and follow our traditional farming methods which embraced mother nature, soil and produced our own food for healthy living.
